Pluralsight Courses Make Me Hide
Pluralsight Courses Make Me Hide Ive been hiding for the last couple of weeks because Im at the point in my next Pluralsight course where I cant do much else. I normally have a half dozen things Im working on, all with their own levels of complexity and needs. I say I have business ADD because I need to work on multiple things at the same time. I also usually have multiple books Im reading at the same time. But, Im nearing the finish line for my 35th Pluralsight course, which is on emotional intelligence for leaders. Its a really cool course and the more Ive gotten into it the more Ive come to really appreciate EQ. Ive learned some really cool things that will impact me for many years. The course is due tomorrow so aside from some customer and tech support here and there, various meetings that Ive had to be in, Ive been missing in action. AWOL. Quiet. I dislike not being able to do all of my normal stuff, but soon enough (early next week?) Ill be back, spinning all of my plates. For now, though, Im hiding. Thankfully, I have the right team to cover for me Pluralsight Courses Make Me Hide Ive been hiding for the last couple of weeks because Im at the point in my next Pluralsight course where I cant do much else. What Did You Learn This Week
What Did You Learn This Week As I wrote in an email to a friend this morning, this weeks episode of Nicoles Life has been an interesting one. How about yours? Without getting too juicy (I really wish I could) Ill say that this week was full of unexpected and exciting surprises at work and in my career beyond my day job. In addition, this week I tried to stay true to my efforts of curing the pleasing disease and trusting my gut. Cheesy Lessons and Quirky Thoughts that were part of my week Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting the same results. Apply this to just about anything- dating, relationships, work and your general habits. (Maybe we should substitute this one with the saying, some things never change.) The principle of good timing is a huge lie. There is no such thing. Simple changes to diet and exercise have a big impact on my mental clarity and outlook. Mint green nail polish is really interesting. I cant decide if I love it or if it looks more like fungus. My iPhone isnt as magical as I once thought. Apparently others at ihatemyiphone.com and the iPhone critics at the NY Times agree. Just like dating, when the honeymoon stage ends and the rose colored glasses come off, things look a bit different. Im pretty disappointed and also pretty shocked that I bought into Apples iPhone4 marketing as much as I did. In real life, it has been an absolute disaster. Every woman should read, Nice Girls Dont Get the Corner Office by Dr. Lois Frankel. Its shocking how many little habits we women have that give off a totally different impression than we intended. Ive tried a few of these simple changes already this week. They really did produce results. I wish I could elaborate, but for now lets leave it at that. I even tried them out on my boyfriend (shhh!). When it rains, it pours. I really, really love cheese. Silence or a pause can change the course of a conversation. I had my mid-year review this week. I did more listening than talking- a change for me in this setting. I felt better about the meeting in the end. The Metropolitan Clubs junior membership is pretty awesome for $100 per month. Im surprised at all the benefits and opportunities that could be gained through joining a private club like this. Thank God for mentors like John Head or I wouldnt get to go to cool places like The Metropolitan Club. And thank you, John, for introducing me to Christine this week. You both gave me so much to chew on. 5 inch heels at the office did nothing but solicit comments and make my back hurt the next day. You dont need to smile all the time. In fact, in certain work situations I think it is a bad thing. I decided that most women appologize way too much for no reason (both at work and at home). Lets come together and ban this bad habit. A 20 pizza is HUGE. Katie and I ordered one this week because that was the only size the place had. A pizza that big is pretty funny for only 2 girls. If in doubt, 100% authenticty is the way to go. Plus a few positioning tactics from Lois Frankels book of course. Your turn. How was YOUR week? What did you learn? What were you reminded of? What can we learn from you?

Why do so many workers remain silent about toxic work behavior -
Why do so many workers remain silent about toxic work behavior - Virtually every American worker has been the target of toxic work behavior at some point in his/her career and, yet, the majority of us never report it. The result is stress, anxiety, and lack of fulfillment for the employee and turnover, reputation damage, productivity loss and in some cases, lawsuits for those employers who donât realize thereâs a problem until itâs too late. If any of this sounds familiar, youâre certainly not alone. Warbleâs recent Workplace Experience Study found that 63% of American workers admit to having witnessed behavior they view as disruptive to the culture, productivity or business that they never reported to HR or to management. What is Toxic Work Behavior? Toxic behavior comes in a variety of shapes and forms. It can range from the severe and unequivocal to the more subtle or passive aggressive. But in all cases, toxic behavior refers to conduct viewed as harmful or disruptive in nature. When behavior is deemed universally egregious, or even illegal, typically it is much easier to identify and is therefore more likely to be reported. When the behavior is subtler in nature it can be harder to identify and often leads to a lower likelihood of being reported. Interestingly, Warbleâs study found that 78% of people think that the most common disruptive work behaviors are done in subtle or passive aggressive ways. Only 30% of respondents identified sexual harassment, violence, discrimination, theft or fraud as having a high impact on their company vs 60% of people who identified behaviors that are often thought to be softer infractions â" unethical behavior, incompetence, bad attitude and poor management skills as having a high impact. Ironically, the likelihood of a respondent to report a subtler harmful behavior was was much lower than the likelihood to report the more egregious (40% vs 60%) despite the perceived impact on the business and culture being greater. Why Donât People Talk About Toxic Behavior When asked why they did not report harmful behavior either experienced or witnessed at work, most people identify multiple contributors as the reason why. 46% of people donât believe any action will be taken 39% of people fear being labeled overly emotional, weak, or petty 38% of people remain silent because the offender is their manager 38% of people fear retaliation 32% of people donât trust HR 26% of people fear losing their job 20% of people have trouble describing the behaviors In most cases, people fail to report due to some a combination of fear or apathy. They either feel they would put themselves at risk or that it isnât worth the effort because nothing will be done. These feelings create a vicious cycle for employees and employers alike. An employee sees bad conduct, and does not report it so management is unaware and nothing happens. This reiterates a sense that accountability is lacking which reinforces the feelings of fear and apathy. This cycle is one of the biggest contributors to culture problems and high attrition rates in companies. For employees, the stress can be too much to take 46% of respondents to Warbleâs study have quit a job at some point in their career because of a disruptive co-worker or manager. It can take 22 months1 to overcome the stress and anxiety that results from this treatment. How Can These Challenges Be Addressed? The data (and most workersâ experience) shows that there is a gap between what is happening in the business and what management sees. The recent efforts to highlight issues like harassment and discrimination at work can help, but do not entirely solve the problem. Employers need to do more to ensure that there are clear, consistent and known behavioral policies and expectations in the workplace. They need to make sure they are taking a more proactive role in providing a means to collect and encourage feedback from every level of the organization. Regular employee surveys, allowing for anonymous reporting of issues, and providing direct communication lines and open doors to executives can help business in collecting more feedback. Some of the most forward-thinking business are hiring individuals whose sole responsibility is the creation and protection of a healthy work culture for everyone. If you are looking for a job, reviewing how employers prepare and respond to personnel problems when you are job-seeking may save you a lot of stress later. If you are currently employed, you can encourage your existing employer to reconsider its policies before you even witness or experience harmful behavior. When you do encounter inappropriate work behaviors you can submit a high level anonymous report directly to an offenderâs boss at Warble.work. They will notify the manager once multiple people have identified a problem with an individual. Letting your employer know that employees donât feel comfortable providing feedback may open their eyes to the need for change. Or, at the very least, it can confirm for you whether your company will support you if you become a victim. Writing a Powerful Objective For Ec Teaching Resume
Writing a Powerful Objective For Ec Teaching ResumeWriting a powerful objective for a teaching resume is also a must as this document will be the deciding factor for the interview. Most of the education professionals are aware of the importance of an effective teaching resume. But, do you know how to write an effective objective for a teaching resume? There are certain factors that must be considered while writing an ec teacher resume objective. Thus, it is important to clearly state the purpose of writing the document. The purpose should be clearly stated as to what the document is really all about. When writing an objective for a teaching resume, it is important to put your passion in writing the document. A teacher has to put the passion in writing the objective. Passion means that the teacher has to put the interest and dedication in writing the document. This can make the teacher more attractive and get a better response from the school. However, if the document is written by the person who is a beginner, it can be very difficult for the document to be more appealing to the student. It is a must for the teacher to make his or her teaching objective very compelling so that the prospective students have a tough time to decide whether he or she should take the course. For instance, the objective can be: 'To teach English as a second language to children aged five and below'. Then it means that the teacher would want to teach children aged between five and ten years. However, if the objective is written like 'To teach English as a first language to children aged five and below', then it can lead to a negative response. In such a case, it is better to explain the reason of the objective so that the recipient can clearly understand. The teacher should write the objective at the end of the teaching resume. This can make the resume look neat and the person looks cool. The objective can be written at the bottom part of the document so that the recipient can find it eas ier to read the document.Another factor that needs to be mentioned in the ec teacher resume is the college or school where the person has the degree. The person should mention that he or she has the degree from a college or school that is not just a high school. It is important for the teacher to mention the college or school because this can help the schools if the person seeks for a teaching job after completing the course. One more important factor to mention is the institution of the person. The person can mention whether he or she is employed at any university, college or school. Moreover, it can also include the national institute and even the private institution. Therefore, this can help the person to be eligible for a teaching job and can help the schools get good teachers. However, it is a must to mention the courses the person has taught in the ec teaching resume. If the person has taught the English course for the school, then the person should mention that in the document. It is important to mention the certificate or degree that is given in the teaching course so that the recipient can be able to understand the professional quality of the teacher.

Creating A Resume That Shows A Lack Of Attention To Detail
Creating A Resume That Shows A Lack Of Attention To DetailWith all the things to consider in your resume you want to make sure that you have one that is correct. There are certain mistakes that could show a resume to be incorrect and should you want to do something with that career you may not be happy with. The first mistake that you can make is thinking that the resume should reflect you. If it is a professional one it should not be personal and should not have jokes or funny phrases included in it. Some people make the mistake of putting in some jokes in their resume and they want to get the job they applied for.You should put yourself into the resume and the reasons that you think that you are a good candidate for the position. This way it will highlight the character of you and not some funny phrases or things that you have said to the interviewer. You need to know if the resume is a good fit for you or not.The next thing that you want to check is the spelling and grammar. It is important to know that when you are looking at a resume that you will be able to read the sentences and understand them. If the sentences are not grammatically correct then it should be edited or corrected. There are many people who put things into their resume that they shouldn't have and this should be taken care of.You should take a look at the spelling and grammar of the resume. Some people put in some jokes and this will show that they are trying to get the job that they applied for. This may not get them the job but it can show to some of the interviewer. Therefore, this is something that you want to look at to see if it is correct.Another thing that you want to look at is if the resume is a duplicate. If someone has made several copies of their resume then there may be errors on their resume. You don't want to take time to get one that is already made and save you time on the resume that you have made. When you are making a resume for different fields, you should choose to wri te your own. This can save you time as well as help you get the resume that you want. You want to choose to write the section that you want and include it in the order that you want to.Make sure that you have not made any of the following mistakes that you should avoid when creating a resume: listing jobs that you have not worked, information that has not been relevant to your resume, or anything that has not been relevant to your skill. These should not be taken care of because they show a lack of attention to detail.

4 Ways to Catch the Hiring Managers Attention with Your Resume - CareerAlley
4 Ways to Catch the Hiring Managerâs Attention with Your Resume - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Mark Twain once said The news of the resumes demise has been greatly exaggerated. Okay, so technically he didnt say that exactly, but he might as well have been talking about[easyazon_link asin=1438001479 locale=US new_window=default nofollow=default tag=caree07-20 add_to_cart=default cloaking=default localization=default popups=default]resumes[/easyazon_link] when he mostly spoke those words. Not long ago people were writing eulogies to the good old resume and saying that employers didnt even want or use them anymore, but lately that tune has changed in popular culture the resume is back. Heres a little secret, though: it never left. With all the job search apps and social networking sites that cater to businesses and jobseekers growing in popularity and importance, its understandable why people wrote off the resume. Sort of. Because even with all of this new technology at our fingertips, what were most of us doing when we finally found an open position that fit us? We were rushing to slap together a resume and email it out before someone else got the job. And for employers who used to get dozens of resumes but now often receive hundreds or more for each position, your resume is likely to be the only thing they see before (hopefully) bringing you in for an interview. It not only matters, it had better be amazing to [easyazon_link asin=1591843219 locale=US new_window=default nofollow=default tag=caree07-20 add_to_cart=default cloaking=default localization=default popups=default]get your foot in the door[/easyazon_link]. Because of that, weve put together this list of the four things you absolutely have to do on your resume to catch their attention and get yourself on the short list of applicants. Be flawless. This almost didnt make the list because it should go without saying, but talk to any hiring manager about it and theyll tell you its one of the top reasons they toss out resumes. Not only do you have to make sure there are no errors in the spelling, grammar, or formatting of your resume, its also important that you get all of the names and factual information correct, too. This is even more important in the cover letter, where youre likely to be addressing it to someone at the company. Not a good time to spell their name wrong. Know the job (and the company). If youre applying for a job in a medical office, youd better have a pretty good idea what it entails. Likewise if youre working in building maintenance, as a lawyer, or in a school, sites like CareerQA can give you a great overview of different types of jobs and industries so that you wont sound like an idiot, but its just as important to dig a little deeper and learn about that specific company and what their culture is like. Start by doing some Google searches, but if possible try to connect with real, live people who work there and talk to them about what its like. Youd be surprised how much this can influence your resume and come through in the language. Show your uniqueness (but also know your audience). Recently there was a story about a hiring manager that brought someone in to interview because they listed alligator wrestling as an interest on their resume. Now, this is not to say that you should try to think of outlandish things to include just to see if you get a bite, but its probably going to be interesting to people if you, say, almost went to the Olympics or enjoy building computers. Just make sure you know your audience. While a comedy writer in Hollywood might love the idea of having an assistant that wrestles alligators, its probably a less attractive quality to a big Wall Street firm. Try to find things that encapsulate your personality while also bringing up a skill that they may find valuable. Emphasize numbers. This may seem like a silly way to stand out, but it can work wonders. Rather than letting your resume be a list of responsibilities you had at previous jobs, turn it into a celebration of your successes. Raised profits by 20 percent in one year. Oversaw 12 employees on my team. Increased productivity by replacing a task that took 1 hour each day with one that took 1 minute. Wouldnt you want to hire this person? I pose this as numbers rather than accomplishments because I think that you want to offer something as concrete as possible. It doesnt have to be a number, but if youve got them, use them. Womens Liberation Is having so many options really a good thing - Hallie Crawford
Womens Liberation Is having so many options really a good thing As Iâve worked with younger career clients over the years, Iâve noticed a theme, especially with my female clients. This may not be the most popular perspective but here it goes⦠Womens Liberation gave us a lot of great things, the right to vote, more equal pay (although still not perfectly equal as we know) and more career choices than ever. Did it also give us women the burden of being more confused than ever in our early years about what weâre going to do next? In my mid-20âs I remember feeling like (and having many friends who felt like) we were having an early life crisis. We got out of college and didnât know what to do with ourselves. Not only did many of us not have a traditional, standard chosen career path like a doctor, lawyer, or a banker. We also werenât sure what to do about getting married; if we even wanted to and if so, when we should do so. We werenât sure if or when we wanted to have kids either. It was a burden placed on us I think by having so many options. Somehow, it seems like from my male clients, that guys donât have as tough a time with this. Now, I may be wrong, and granted my sample size is not scientific, but all of my younger male clients or prospects seem to have a much better sense of what they want to do. Were they encouraged or socialized to think about this much earlier on perhaps? If they are somewhat confused, usually they are able to make their decision about what to do next much faster due to their skills, interests or college major. Again, this is a generalization, but I know especially from working with a recent female client, whoâs a senior in college, that she feels overwhelmed by (not empowered by) the number of options she has in a career path. She hasnât even hit that mid-life stage that my friends and I reached in our mid-20âs when we really freaked out about what to do next. The lines are blurred, the messages arenât always clear, and I think thereâs something comforting in knowing what you want to do next AND having there be more limited options. Now I donât want to go back to the 1930âs, not even close. Maybe, along with womenâs lib, we shouldâve thought more about how to effectively prepare our young female population to make decisions about their career, family life etc. In some cases instead of graduating from school empowered, theyâre graduating completely freaked out and confused. Iâd love to hear your comments on this in the comment box below. Certified Career Coach P.S.
